Denim is the most worn fabric in the world. It can be matched to anything from silk to cotton and can be dressed up or down. It is a very versatile fabric which is why it has its place in every wardrobe. Jeans are a staple piece in everyone’s closet. They are comfortable and versatile because of their fabric. There are many different types of jeans inspired from different trends such as the flared jeans (70’s) and the mom jeans (80’s). Although all different jeans can be worn with any pair of shoes, there is a type of shoe that it just looks better when worn with a specific type of jeans. Below there is my personal guide to which shoe to match with your jeans.
Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans are the most worn and popular style. They elongate the legs and also are figure-hugging, hence very feminine. Wear them with a pair of stiletto pumps in a neutral color like nude or black and you will be the epitome of style and elegance.
Mom Jeans
The famous 80’s trend, mom jeans are high-waisted and with a loose fit for a more comfortable feel. Since they are the most comfortable ones (mom’s wear them right?) wearing them with a pair of sneakers is a must. Sneakers are extremely comfortable as well, plus they have a laid back, cool vibe once paired with mom jeans. Perfect for everyday!
Flared Jeans
Another trend from the past, flared jeans are a 70’s staple. Ideal for curvier figures, these jeans are one of the hottest trends of this season. Wear them with a pair of platforms or sandals with chunky heels for the perfect relaxed, bohemian look.
Boyfriend Jeans
Boyfriend jeans, as the name suggests, are the least feminine ones. They have a loose, more masculine straight fit and usually hung quite low. Since these jeans are not very feminine, the best way to make them look more flattering is to match them with a pair of heels. A pair of heeled, strappy sandals is the perfect match for a sexier and more flattering look. If you –like me- don’t wear high heels on a daily basis, a pair of low, chunky heels would also look lovely with boyfriend jeans.
Cropped Jeans
Cropped are the jeans that stop above the ankle. It is a style that doesn’t work for everyone, as I find that if you have shorter legs, these jeans make them look even shorter. Cropped jeans look amazing with any type of shoe: heels, snickers, sandals, espadrilles and so on, however, 70’s chunky heels, will elongate the legs and slim the figure. If you are on the taller side, apart from lower heels, sneakers or espadrilles would be a perfect match for your cropped jeans.
Jeans are extremely versatile; although they are really comfortable hence the perfect choice for a day outfit, they can also help create an elegant and fancy night outfit. I absolutely love wearing jeans. They are so comfortable and easy to style. You can dress them down and create a casual daily look, or dress them up with a nice shirt or top. I like how effortless they are. Pairing jeans with a nice top is so easy that gives you time to focus on the details; the accessories. Another thing I love about jeans, is how there is a huge variety of styles and designs that can basically compliment any body type. There are jeans for slim bodies, curvier figures, tall girls or short ones. And let’s not forget the shades; light blue for the summer, darker blue for the winter, black, grey, white and even colorful ones like pink and red. But as mentioned before, the most important selling point of them for me, is their comfort; the fact that I feel at ease while wearing them, and the fact that I just can’t go wrong with a nice pair of jeans.
I don’t really like to overspend on my jeans. I rather have many different ones than just a couple pricey ones. My two favorite brands for jeans-shopping are Topshop and ASOS. Both brands have reasonably priced jeans and a lovely variety. However, they don’t offer the same quality. I am a 5’10’’ girl with a curvy figure and I feel that high-waisted jeans are better for me. They elongate and slim down my body a little bit, whereas the low or mid waist ones are just focusing on the problematic area (hips) that i’d rather not emphasize. Therefore, when shopping, I always get myself high-waisted jeans.
From Topshop all my jeans are the Joni Super High Waisted ones. I love the Joni jeans. The size I go for is W32L34 and in the Tall section it’s W30L36. They are very comfortable, long enough and reasonably priced at 50 euros. However, the quality is not that good. I hate to say it, but if it was up to me I wouldn’t call them jeans but jeggings because that’s how they feel. The material is quite thin and after a while it rubs off and sometimes it even gets holey. It also becomes a bit baggy especially around the knees and the color may fade at some parts. Something that is that thin, in my opinion is not really denim. Hence, I would call them jeggings. They are very stretchy and comfortable, but because they are that thin, I don’t feel I am wearing proper jeans. I like how they are flattering my body and how long they are but it’s disappointing at how quickly they fall apart. They last me a year at the most before they start having major issues. I do still love them though, as they combine comfort, style and a relatively low price.
From ASOS I go for the Ridley Skinny High Waisted Jeans. I usually get the W32L34 size, unless it’s an ankle grazer, where in that case I might size up, as I find they have a little tighter fit. Now the ASOS jeans are quite different. They are thicker than the Joni ones, therefore they don’t rub off or fade that easily. Because they are thicker, they are less elastic. This means they are not as comfy and stretchy as the Joni ones. Don’t get me wrong though; they are not uncomfy. They are as comfy as regular jeans are. The Topshop ones are too stretchy, more like leggings. The length may vary in ASOS jeans. I have ankle grazers that are just above my ankles and ankle grazers that are like cropped jeans. So I would say that there might be a slight surprise with the length. Therefore, if I can size up on the length I do it. Their price is lower than the Topshop ones; they are between 34-45 euros. I really like my ASOS Ridley jeans a lot because they feel like proper, good quality jeans and they are at a great price.
Jeans are one of the most popular pieces of clothing. They are comfortable, relatively cheap and they match with everything. Literally, you can put any top with them and you have a nice look. From effortless and casual they can easily be transformed into a chic night-time outfit. I love my jeans; whether they are from Topshop or ASOS. However, if you are looking for the best combination of quality and low price (value for money), ASOS is a better choice. Its jeans are thicker, better quality and more affordable. Topshop jeans are very comfy and they have a nice fit, but they are quite thin and they will fall apart quite quickly. Plus they are a bit more pricey. I recommend both brands as they both offer some nice jeans; I just like ASOS jeans a bit more. It all comes down to what everyone is seeking; better quality or more comfort and stretch. Which is your favorite jeans brand and why? Do you guys prefer ASOS or Topshop jeans? I would love to know what you think! I love fall so much. It is my favorite season because of its gloomy weather! I love how we move from tank tops and sandals to leather jackets and boots, all due to the change in the weather. Grey skies, some breeze all around and falling leaves, is my kind of pretty. I love the color palette of this season as it revolves around brown, grey, burgundy and forest green; all amazing colors. Based on this palette, I have a 7 staple pieces list for this season, that I will share with you guys. These are all pieces I can’t go without; they are perfect for transitioning from warmth to cold. They are versatile and easy to mix and match thus creating many different looks.
Grey woolen coat from ZARA
What more necessary in a cold weather than a coat? I absolutely love coats. They are keeping you warm but also they are a very elegant piece in your wardrobe. Wearing a casual outfit and adding a coat on top, is my fall-winter go-to look. Although I have many coats of different colors, my favorite this year is my new light grey Zara coat. I always wanted a grey one as it’s one of my favorite colors ever, but somehow it was hard to find the perfect one. When I saw this one I fell in love. It is a pretty light shade and has a flattering fit. A coat is a staple piece in your closet as it is big enough to catch the eye and it completes every look.
Brick red jumper from H&M
Another item perfect for the colder weather, is the good ol’ jumper. I love loose fit jumpers, as they create an effortless casual look for every day. They look good with jeans and skirts and they are easy to combine. I have many jumpers but none in a brick-red shade. I fell in love with this color as I find it very flattering on me and it is the basic color of autumn. It goes pretty well with my grey coat (mentioned above) as well as with my navy blue and khaki ones. It is long and baggy which makes it more comfortable and it is very warm. A nice jumper in a hot shade is another staple piece for this season!
A-line denim skirt from ASOS
As I mentioned in another post, the A-line skirt is one of the hottest pieces of this season. It channels a 70’s boho vibe. I absolutely love this denim A-line skirt from ASOS, because it is very flattering for my curvy shape. I love how it makes me feel sexy and feminine. You can dress it up or down with heels or flats plus it goes well with the thigh high boots I got from ASOS and public desire (see post). Because it is denim it’s easier to combine it with anything of any color. Although I am a jeans kinda girl, I love wearing a skirt every now and then for a girlier look.
Black jeans from ASOS
I am in love with those jeans! Since blue denim is quite a classic piece, I thought it would be cool this season to replace it with a black one. Black is also a staple color but not as mainstream as blue. However, black jeans are very elegant, figure flattering and perfect for a day-to-night look. This one specifically is very cool because it has the lace up detail on the bottom which makes it sexy and less ordinary. Pair it up with flats or heels, with jumpers or sheer shirts, with coats or leather jackets, this black pair of jeans is perfect for fall and winter. A must have a piece for any closet!
Thigh high boots from ASOS
You guys know by now my love for thigh high boots. As mentioned in another post, I believe they are the perfect shoe for fall, as they are sexy, feminine and flattering, because they slim down the legs and elongate them. I can’t praise these ASOS suede thigh high boots enough. They have flat heels so they are easy to walk around in all day long but that doesn’t mean they can’t be worn in a night outfit. They make any look very elegant! Now if you guys are not into high boots, I believe a pair of ankle boots is an amazing alternative. Chelsea boots are very lovely, casual and comfy and they could be a staple of your fall-winter wardrobe.
Green saddle bag from ZARA
Saddle purses are very hot right now. They are easy to wear and give a casual and sporty vibe. They have the perfect size for day and night use. Taking a look at my winter bags I realized that 90% of them are black. And it makes sense, as black is an all time classic and goes well with everything. However, I wanted to add some color on my collection of bags and this ZARA forest green one looks amazing. This color represents fall and is as easy to combine as black. As a matter of fact, my favorite combination is wearing it with powdery pink colors or grey. Forest green is a lovely wintery color and saddle bags are a huge trend right now because of their 70’s boho vibe.
7. Brown longline blazer from ZARA
I absolutely love that blazer! I believe that a long-line blazer is a great alternative to a coat for those not too cold days. It’s very comfortable and soft because it is cotton and not wool, but it will still warm you up a little bit. The color is amazing as brown is a perfect shade for fall and it is so easy to match with everything. It is a versatile piece you can wear casually when going out for lunch or coffee but also at night with a cute dress or skirt. Zara has literally outdone itself this year guys; I am in love with almost everything. Having an outwear piece for the warmer days of fall is quite important and a blazer like that is perfect for your staples collection.
Fall is the season where the weather is neither too hot nor too cold. Therefore, there is a need for a basic wardrobe that helps the transition from summer to winter. These 7 staple pieces are perfect for fall as they can be easily combined in order to create many looks and they represent the season’s color palette.
